Chapter 11 – The clever yet foolish fox, Taoist Chen Changsheng

Having figured out the reason behind it all, Chen Changsheng was ready to leave the place.

Just then, the fox-eared girl who had been unconscious woke up.

Seeing the green-haired corpse staring straight at her, she curled up in fright.

"Woo woo woo!"

"Please don't eat me, my meat is sour."

Chen Changsheng couldn't help but laugh at the fox-eared girl's reaction.

"How do you know it's sour if you haven't tasted it? Besides, you look so fresh, you must taste great."

Hearing this, the fox-eared girl became even more anxious.

"I'm not fresh at all, just a bit chubby."

"Actually, I'm quite skinny, just skin and bones. If you eat me, you'll definitely chip a tooth."

Saying this, the fox-eared girl covered her face with her small hands, her fox ears drooping in fear.

However, the expected pain never came.

Peeking through her fingers, her big round eyes observed the surroundings.

She saw that the green-haired corpse had somehow put on clothes, and some of the green hair on its face had been cleaned off.

"Aren't you an immortal corpse?"

Hearing this, Chen Changsheng rolled his eyes and said, "A corpse that doesn't rot for a hundred years becomes a stiff, a thousand years without decay becomes an immortal corpse."

"An immortal corpse is born from gathering the deathly energy of heaven and earth, impervious to water and fire, resistant to swords and blades."

"It feeds on resentment and flesh."

"If such an ominous legend were true, you wouldn't even have a trace left."

Realizing that the person in front of her wasn't the legendary immortal corpse, the fox-eared girl immediately bowed deeply in respect.

"I apologize for disturbing your meditation, senior. Please forgive me!"

Looking at the fox-eared girl kneeling on the ground, Chen Changsheng initially planned to brush her off with a few words and then go their separate ways.

But on second thought, Chen Changsheng decided to extract some information from this naive fox-eared girl first.

Eighty years ago, he was randomly teleported here, and he spent the rest of the time building a tomb.

He knew nothing about the general environment here, and wandering blindly could cause a lot of unnecessary trouble.

Thinking of this, Chen Changsheng pondered for a moment and then spoke.

"Why are you here alone? Where are your people?"

Hearing Chen Changsheng's question, the fox-eared girl immediately replied respectfully.

"Senior, I wandered here, and there are no clansmen with me."

"What year is it now, and what changes have occurred here?"

"It is now the 380th year of the Royal Dynasty, and everything here is fine, with no major changes."

"However, I heard that three hundred miles to the east, a Divine Transformation expert has appeared at Shangqing Temple."

Hearing the name Shangqing Temple, Chen Changsheng immediately searched his memory.

Back then, to prevent getting lost after teleporting, Chen Changsheng had collected many maps.

He didn't dare say he knew the entire Royal Dynasty, but he knew at least more than half.

"If I remember correctly, Shangqing Temple is about a thousand miles from Linglong Sect."

"I didn't expect to be teleported this far."

Muttering to himself, Chen Changsheng spoke.

"Since it was unintentional, I won't hold you accountable for trespassing. You may leave!"

"Huh?"

"Senior, am I just supposed to leave?"

The adorable and silly fox-eared girl instinctively voiced her thoughts.

Seeing this, Chen Changsheng said coldly, "What else do you want to do?"

"But in such situations, isn't the senior supposed to grant a fortune?"

"Who told you that?"

"That's what the legends say!"

Looking at the fox-eared girl's clear yet foolish eyes, Chen Changsheng couldn't help but be amused.

They say foxes are cunning, but this was the first time he'd seen one so naive.

"Very well, since our meeting is fate, I'll grant you some fortune."

With that, Chen Changsheng casually shared some insights and reflections on Foundation Establishment with the fox-eared girl.

These insights were from discussions he had with Little Monk Ikkyu back in the day.

That little monk would come chat with him every now and then, and apart from not leaking the Heavenly Buddha Temple's cultivation techniques, Chen Changsheng knew everything about him, including the fact that he wet the bed at five.

After speaking, Chen Changsheng waved his hand and said.

"Our fate ends here, you may leave."

"If you appear before me again, your life will be at risk."

"Thank you, senior, for your guidance. Hu Meiniang will never forget it!"

After giving Chen Changsheng another deep bow, the fox-eared girl immediately turned and left.

Watching her back, Chen Changsheng smiled and then left in the opposite direction.

Although his defense was strong now, his attack methods were almost nonexistent.

In other words, he couldn't defeat this little fox.

If the little fox discovered his weakness, it would be a big problem.

As for those Foundation Establishment insights...

Chen Changsheng didn't know if they were useful since he had never reached Foundation Establishment himself.

Leaving the cave where he had slept for eighty years, Chen Changsheng began to wander aimlessly again.

Nian Sheng had already started her own life, and she no longer needed Chen Changsheng's care.

Chen Changsheng only had one thing to do: find the next goal to pass his long waking years.

...

"Chen Changsheng!"

A shout echoed in the Scripture Repository, where a heroic man in a Taoist robe was looking around, seemingly searching for something.

Hearing the shout, Chen Changsheng, dressed in a Taoist robe and still sleepy, suddenly lifted his head from a pile of books.

Seeing who it was, Chen Changsheng grinned and said, "Senior Brother Qingfeng, what's up?"

Seeing Chen Changsheng's innocent look, Qingfeng couldn't help but feel frustrated.

"Junior Brother Changsheng, you've been at Shangqing Temple for ten years."

"In ten years, you're still stuck at the ninth level of Qi Refining. Do you even want to reach Foundation Establishment?"

Hearing this, Chen Changsheng waved his hand and said, "Ah, Foundation Establishment can't be rushed. Taking it slow isn't a bad thing."

"Life's journey is long, taking it slow is nice."

Hearing this, Qingfeng's eye twitched uncontrollably.

His Junior Brother Changsheng had come to Shangqing Temple ten years ago with a rather good upper-grade wood spiritual root talent.

Since coming to Shangqing Temple, everyone had doted on this little junior brother.

Because this little junior brother was always smiling at everyone, focused and meticulous in his work, and quite patient.

He didn't scheme or vie for fame and fortune, spending his days either reading Taoist scriptures or meditating.

Such a junior brother would be the darling of any sect.

But as time went on, everyone gradually discovered Junior Brother Changsheng's problem: he was too "patient."

With an upper-grade wood spiritual root talent, it should normally take about five years to reach Foundation Establishment.

But Junior Brother Changsheng had spent ten years and still hadn't reached Foundation Establishment.
