Chapter 37 – Alice's Hell - Dinner

This request caught Yi Qing slightly off guard, and he asked, "Oh? Why?"

Yu Xing handed over the small wooden box, and Yi Qing took it with his hand, lifting it to take a look. "What are you planning?"

Yu Xing smiled and said, "Nothing, just put it there for now. Wait until Zeng Lai leaves before putting it down, so he doesn't see it."

Obviously, Yu Xing had his own considerations. The Green-Capturing Ghost was not one to shy away from trouble, reluctantly nodding in agreement. It wasn't until a few minutes later when Yu Xing opened the door and Zeng Lai left that Yi Qing drifted out through the window.

In the eyes of others, his current state was like a wisp of green smoke carrying something vague. Nothing could be seen clearly. After drifting out of Yu Xing's room, the green smoke squeezed through the crack in the window closed by the gambler Zeng Lai, and even the small wooden box was transported inside without any substantial movement.

Once inside, Yi Qing surveyed the layout of Zeng Lai's room. This bedroom was no different from Yu Xing's bedroom. After wandering around for a while, he placed the box in a hard-to-reach spot on top of the wardrobe, in the innermost area.

In that position, even a normal person couldn't reach it even if they stretched on tiptoes, which was a convenience for Yi Qing as a specter.

After placing the box, he didn't rush to leave. Instead, he drifted around the room for a while, hoping to find something interesting left by the gambler.

The result left Yi Qing very disappointed. There was nothing in the entire room that belonged to the Alice Castle.

"Hmph... as expected, Yu Xing is the most interesting person. The others are too boring, not good, not good," he muttered. Yi Qing left Zeng Lai's room and went after Yu Xing, following the induction of the Green-Capturing Dream.

Yu Xing and Zeng Lai were walking, much slower than Yi Qing. Just as they stepped into the hall, he suddenly felt a breeze, and a chill ran down the hem of his clothes, swirling around the dagger fastened to his belt.

He knew Yi Qing had returned, and with such a convenient "cheat code," his actions would be much easier.

Zeng Lai seemed to sense something and looked to the side, but found nothing, so he let it go.

After finishing what he hadn't said to Zeng Lai, Yu Xing continued, "The second staircase to the left leads to the third floor. Let's go up the first one and take a look."

"I think that's fine. It doesn't matter which of the remaining three staircases we choose. We're just taking a general look, not a detailed inspection," Zeng Lai agreed.

Yu Xing returned to the first area they had reached in the castle. The first-floor hall was very quiet at this time, with no one else present except for the two of them. Only the butler in a tailcoat stood next to the golden clock, not looking around, seemingly unaware of the two people coming down the stairs.

The long table was no different from before, and the chairs were lonely in their original positions. The crystal chandelier lit up just enough to see, making the luxurious hall not look so bright.

Zeng Lai suddenly stopped Yu Xing and said, "Hey, wait a minute. I'm going to have a chat with the butler."

The butler and the tour guide nun were like NPCs in a game. Since they could advance the process and had their own roles, they might reveal some information.

As an experienced deductionist on the righteous path, Zeng Lai was best at finding ways to clear the game and strategies.

He took three steps to the butler. Only then did the butler finally react, bowing slightly and politely saying, "Hello, esteemed guests. Is there anything I can help you with?"

"Butler, I want to ask, can we have dinner brought to our rooms?" Zeng Lai asked.

The butler replied expressionlessly, "No, Alice doesn't like guests who don't socialize, and doing so would mean missing Alice's speech. She hates being ignored by others the most."

Yu Xing leisurely followed Zeng Lai's footsteps, then leaned against the golden clock to eavesdrop.

Zeng Lai asked again, "Then... besides the scheduled meals, do we have any snacks or afternoon tea?"

The butler replied, "No, the meals are only complimentary services for the Alice Castle theme park experience and do not include afternoon tea."

Zeng Lai said, "If we're thirsty, can we go to the kitchen to get water?"

The butler hesitated and said, "I don't think so."

"If nothing is allowed, your theme park's service is really lacking," Zeng Lai said unhappily.

The butler remained silent.

Zeng Lai crossed his arms and said, "Hey, I need to talk to that Alice of yours and give her some feedback. Where is she?"

Yu Xing listened with interest to the key question, eagerly awaiting the butler's answer.

"Alice appears in the hall before every meal. You can voice your opinions at that time. Or at night, when Alice roams the castle, you can also find her," the butler said calmly and unhurriedly.

"I want to give feedback now! Right now!" Zeng Lai played the role of an unreasonable troublemaker, insisting on forcing the butler to reveal Alice's residence.

There was no reason for Alice not to live in the castle. If her location was known, it would be much easier to figure out her movements, whether it was to find clues or to avoid Alice, who was a specter at night. Everything would be much simpler.

The butler glanced at him with a cold look, sending shivers down his spine.

"Please understand our work. If you are dissatisfied with the service of the Alice Castle theme park, please provide feedback after the two-day experience. If you are strongly inclined to complain now, tonight's dinner should be able to include an extra dish."

The threat in his words was clear. It was unclear whether the butler was trying to scare him or if the rules were such that the butler would take action against Zeng Lai if he asked about Alice's location again.

Zeng Lai closed his mouth. "Then I'll give feedback after the experience is over."

He turned and left in a huff, heading towards the first staircase on the left. After he left, the housekeeper resumed his expressionless work state and looked at Yu Xing. "Is there anything else this guest needs? If there are any issues with the room facilities or injuries, you can come to me."

Yu Xing stood up from the golden clock, waved his hand, and gave a perfunctory smile. "Not for now. Keep up the good work."

After saying that, he followed Zeng Lai and left.

The left staircase wasn't long, winding upwards, seemingly leading to the second floor. After Yu Xing went up, he saw Zeng Lai waiting for him at the staircase on the second floor.

"What's the conclusion from your investigation?" He walked up and casually asked.

Zeng Lai smirked and said, "It's alright. At least we know that the staff can attack us if provoked. Also, the time and meals are strictly controlled for some reason, so we need to pay attention to that."

Yu Xing added, "Yes, the guide said that Alice wears a bell at night, belonging to the specter camp. We'll see how Alice usually treats us later. If there are any clues, it means that this deduction should have a plot, not just the superficial rules of the game."

"Exactly!" Zeng Lai was increasingly satisfied with Yu Xing. With his logical thinking, it at least proved that Yu Xing had the ability and didn't just rely on someone else to rise up.

He had only heard Ren Yi mention Yu Xing before. Since Yu Xing was obviously not on the right path, he couldn't enter their guild, so he didn't pay attention. It was only now, after personal contact, that he felt Ren Yi's evaluation was not exaggerated.

The second floor was generally more spacious, mostly functional rooms such as bathrooms, gyms, storage rooms, control rooms, and so on.

These rooms were piled up on the same corridor, looking a bit irregular. The two of them roughly opened a few doors and then went back, going through the hall and up two other staircases to check.

The third staircase led to the fourth floor, which was a wide-ranging library. There were many books, and Yu Xing was certain that there must be some key information hidden among them, but it was not within the scope of their investigation for the time being.

The fourth staircase led to the fifth floor, but the staircase was blocked by a rusty iron door. When he tried to push the door, it prompted that a key was missing, and it couldn't be forced open.

In other words, the first-floor hall connected to the second, third, fourth, and fifth floors. Leaving aside the fact that the door to the fifth floor couldn't be opened for now, Yu Xing found that there were very few ways to get to other parts of the first floor.

Up to now, the only area on the first floor that he had seen, apart from the hall, was the eerie sculpture hall outside the bedroom window, which had an indescribable atmosphere that made people uncomfortable.

The first and fifth floors were the two strangest floors to him.

When he walked back from the fifth-floor iron door and returned to the hall, the other deductionists had already gathered. In fact, shortly after Yu Xing and Zeng Lai arrived at the hall, the others came in one after another and did similar things to them.

At this moment, the deductionists had not yet taken their seats and were wandering around the hall. Yu Xing slowed down due to the chest tightness caused by climbing the stairs continuously and looked at the golden clock.

The exquisite dark gold clock was heavy and magnificent, and the hands pointed to 18:25.

Dinner was about to begin.

The hall's lighting was still ambiguous, at a critical point between transparency and dimness. Things a little further away were blurry, making the deductionists, who knew they were in the absurdity of danger, feel a little uneasy.

"You're here." Yizhao waved his hand and walked over unhurriedly, looking at the two of them with a somewhat melancholic tone. "Why didn't you take me with you to investigate? I was acting alone just now..."

"Haha, I actually prefer to act alone. Isn't it because I think little Xing is too inexperienced, so I'm taking him under my wing." Zeng Lai was indeed rough but meticulous, speaking without leaking a word, perfectly blocking any possible requests from Yizhao.

"Well, the seniors can survive alone, and I can only cling to the senior gambler." When Yu Xing said this, his face was calm and sincere.

Yizhao could only laugh twice. "Alright, I hope that when I'm in danger, the gambler can save me. Thank you very much."

Zeng Lai patted his shoulder. "I'll definitely save you when I see it, hehe, as long as it's not an opponent."

Yu Xing always felt that Zeng Lai had an inexplicable hostility towards Yizhao, vaguely suggesting that Yizhao seemed to have ill intentions.

Although from the name alone, Yizhao didn't seem like a good person, but the name "gambler" didn't seem like a deductionist from the right path, right? It didn't seem like something the experienced Zeng Lai would do to judge a person by their name.

So, Yizhao must have been seen as problematic by Zeng Lai in some way.

A hint of interest appeared in Yu Xing's eyes behind the mask. Regardless of Yizhao's attitude, it could be basically confirmed that it was directed at the gambler, and he only had two things to do—complete the deduction and kill Han Xinyi and Han Zhiyong.

He had asked Qu Xianqing before, what would happen in reality if someone died in the deduction?

Qu Xianqing's answer at the time was that they wouldn't die immediately, but because the personality mask shattered, all abilities would disappear, and they would die in a reasonable and rational way, such as suicide or an accident.

He had to make these two culprits die in the deduction in order to protect Yujia Ming and Gao Changan, so that these two sharp detectives wouldn't die from the frustration of unequal strength.

Thinking of this, Yu Xing shifted his gaze to Han Xinyi, who was in the corner.

Han Xinyi stood alone, looking somewhat lonely, while Han Zhiyong was separated from her, standing on the other side.

At this moment, she was looking at a stone sculpture of a human with a snake tail in the hall, keeping a distance from the others and not looking at Yu Xing, and he didn't know what she was thinking.

After confirming that Han Xinyi was the throat-slashing culprit and a member of the Single Prism, Yu Xing went to find the video related to her. However, her information was too clean. Even with Qu Xianqing's help, we couldn't find any useful video material. First off, she had never uploaded any paid videos, and even in other people's videos, she was just a passerby.

These videos all had one thing in common... At the beginning, Han Xinyi would always quickly find a teammate, then they would split up from the main group, and in the end, that teammate never survived.

This was highly consistent with the characteristic of the Prism members being adept at concealing themselves. Only, this kind of concealment cost others their lives.

"Without me, her Deduction style would likely lean towards feigning weakness and gaining others' trust, then striking down the Deductionist teammate who left traces of her, to prevent any related videos from leaking. However, this time there's someone who can expose her tricks, so to continue avoiding detection, she can only achieve this by being silent and aloof from the group," Yu Xing thought to himself, then followed Han Xinyi's gaze towards the statue.

It was a male figure with the tail of a snake, the upper body bare, and the scales on the lower body carved to lifelike perfection. The statue was as tall as a human, but the tail rested on a half-meter base, forcing people to look up at it.

"Please take your seats, dinner is ready."

Just as Yu Xing's expression was turning peculiar, the butler walked past the gong to the dining table and announced to the Deductionists, who were too excited about the imminent meeting with the legendary Alice to care about eating.

Yu Xing came back to his senses, took another glance at the statue, and then walked towards the long table with Zeng Lai and Ai Li.

The others also came over. There were eighteen seats on both sides of the long table, offering a wide range of choices. No one sat near the head of the table, as it was obviously reserved for Alice.

Alice could be considered a major Deduction boss, who would want to sit next to the boss?

Yu Xing felt the same; he chose a seat towards the back on the right side, far away from Alice.

If it were any other boss, he would have been happy to sit near Alice and stir up trouble, but he couldn't let Alice discover his identity now.

The Gambler sat down next to him, with Ai Li on the other side of the Gambler, leaving a seat in between.

And when Yu Xing settled down, Han Xinyi giggled and sat next to him.

"Let's eat together, Xing~"

The girl's sweet voice drew the attention of others. Yu Xing calmly turned his head to look at her and smiled, "Of course, that's your prerogative."

"Dong——"

"Dong——"

"Dong——"

Just then, the gong's hand pointed to eighteen-thirty and solemnly rang out.

At the same time, the chandelier on the ceiling unexpectedly went out without warning!

The entire hall was suddenly plunged into pitch darkness, and Yu Xing heard someone get startled, letting out a half-scream before immediately stopping.

"Gurgle gurgle..."

In the darkness, the sound of rolling wheels could be heard.
