Chapter 42 – Alice's Hell - Corpse

Do you have a face?

For any living person, there is only one answer to this question, and that is yes.

But White Face did not answer, his whole body was trembling.

Obviously, he was afraid.

He squatted in the corner, listening to the soft voice attached to his ear, asking in a probing and malicious tone, "Huh? Wearing a mask?"

"In that case, I can only assume that you have no face..."

There seemed to be a hint of regret in the voice, and the suffocating oppression slowly faded away, as if he had been spared for this reason.

White Face held his breath and waited for another minute, but the voice did not sound again.

He relaxed a little, reached out to push the door, wanting to leave quickly.

A little regretful, he should have followed a gambler like that. In any case, the other party would not maliciously deceive someone they didn't know.

Even if... he was a fallen line.

Anyway, the gambler wouldn't know this, so he was no different from anyone else.

Just as he was thinking this, White Face's hand had already touched the door, and with a gentle push, he could free himself from this place that made him feel completely defenseless.

Yes, it was only after he hid in the cabinet that he realized that the specter here belonged to him - corresponding to his guilt.

But he couldn't go out, because the specter outside seemed to have outstanding vision, and he was equally unable to deal with it.

Because his eyes were not good, he couldn't see clearly, and it was difficult to escape from the specter.

Damn it.

He wasn't this weak originally.

If it had been a week ago, he would never have been so passive in participating in the Struggle-level Deduction.

But now...

White Face's fingertips exerted force, about to push open the cabinet door.

However, as soon as the door opened a crack, it was rebounded by a huge force!

"Hee hee hee..."

Laughter echoed in the cabinet, and White Face shuddered all over, sitting down as if drained of strength.

"It's fine for others to have no face, but you..."

A cold breath enveloped him again, as if a pair of hands had covered his mouth and nose, making it impossible for him to breathe.

"You can't do it, you have no face and you still have to die! You have to die!!"

Swish—

The mask on White Face's face was lifted by an invisible force, and at the same time, the cabinet door was shaken open, and the bright light from the bathroom seeped in through the crack, illuminating a face even more terrifying than the specter.

This face was as pale as a peeled ghost, with a distinct color difference between the jaw and the neck. If the area below the neck was normal skin color, then the area above the neck was like a dead body.

The eyes, due to the sudden change, were wide open, but it was no use. The area around the eyes was full of red and black stitches, which bound the eyelids and eye sockets together, leaving only two black eyeballs.

Even so, the eyeballs were not completely spared, and a close examination by a medical student would quickly conclude that these eyes were almost blind.

A hurried gasp came from White Face's throat, and he covered his face with his hands, biting down hard, causing the upper and lower teeth to collide intensely.

Above his head, a face emerged from the wood, with exaggeratedly curved eyes.

Face: "Oh my, who did this to you?"

White Face: "......"

Face: "Why aren't you speaking?"

White Face: "......"

He finally opened his mouth, as if trying to explain something.

"Ah..."

The face floated from above White Face's head to directly in front of him, looking at him curiously.

Only to see that there was no tongue in White Face's open mouth!

Everyone thought that White Face was a person with a self-contained personality who didn't like to talk. In fact, did he really not like to talk?

No, he just couldn't talk!

With simple lines, the face made an unusually complex expression, as if it was a little dazed, and then burst into a series of cheerful and gloating laughter: "Haha... hahahahaha... hahahahaha... you have today too! Who did it!? Who did this!"

White Face closed his mouth, feeling humiliation, fear, and despair all rushing to his heart.

He couldn't run away, he thought.

Because even the sacrifice had been taken away by that person, the attack, the defense, everything he used to take the skin off others and put it on himself... all gone. Now he had no ability to protect himself.

Even, if it weren't for being forcibly summoned by this deduction a week ago, he should have been preparing for surgery in a private hospital.

Or, if it weren't for that terrifying person catching him a week ago, destroying his entire face and the organs on it, he wouldn't have been dragged into this deadly deduction game without any preparation close to the deadline.

The excited laughter of the specter seemed to accompany his death, and the face peeled off from the wood above him, covering White Face's face, and then began to tear it apart.

"Ah!!!"Without a tongue, White Face could only make this monosyllable sound, and he curled up, unable to resist the penetrating pain that reached his bones.

Perhaps, a week ago, he had already lost most of his will to survive.

Before his flesh and brain were torn apart, the words that person said to him appeared in White Face's mind.

"Do you like laurel flowers? I'm giving you this flower, hoping you won't throw it away. The meaning? Haha... it's about temptation, committing a sin under seduction, and it will all be returned to you in the end. And today, I'm just helping that day come a little earlier."

"You're not completely useless, at least you can help me send a message to someone. Hmm... for that, I'll leave you with intact ears."

The last image in his consciousness was a withered laurel flower petal and a smile with an unknown meaning.

...

Twenty minutes later.

"Damn, this thing can run faster than me! Luckily it's not very smart, otherwise I wouldn't dare guarantee a safe return."

Zeng Lai stubbornly held up the towel around his waist, panting, at least maintaining his dignity in front of the "audience" of Huai, without feeling embarrassed.

In fact, Huai had already started to consider not uploading the video of this deduction, because he himself was in a sorry state, also wearing only a towel, his hair wet from sweat, far from the dignified appearance of the "Master of Deduction."

Only Yu Xing looked a bit more composed, after all, he was dressed neatly and hadn't exerted as much as Zeng Lai and Huai.

Just as they were talking, the three of them returned to the bathroom door, and coincidentally ran into Huang Bai, who had just finished blow-drying her hair. Huang Bai was shocked to see the state of the three of them, not caring who was the master and who was the newcomer, and took a step back in shock, "Why aren't you guys wearing clothes!?"

Zeng Lai was also shocked, "Why are you still here?"

Huai remained silent, with only his hand covering his forehead expressing his despair.

He thought they would only come back after the two girls had finished washing, how could they have met in this state?

It had been twenty minutes already.

Huang Bai's tone was full of self-righteousness, "It takes this long for girls to wash and shampoo, any objections?"

She couldn't help but suspect that these two men had never had a girlfriend.

After thinking for a moment, Huang Bai added, "The other girl went back first, so I took a little longer to blow dry my hair. Wait, why do you guys look like you came from outside? Where did you guys go?!"

This... Zeng Lai sighed.

"Long story short."

Huang Bai: "Shorten the long story."

Huai: "Let me confirm first, Xing, the voice that told me to hide earlier wasn't you, right?"

Huang Bai was really confused, "Hide? What hide?"

Alright, it's confirmed now.

After glancing at Yu Xing, Huai silently passed the topic to Zeng Lai to handle.

So Zeng Lai briefly explained to Huang Bai what happened in the bathroom, and briefly described the situation after they escaped from the bathroom.

...

It's not that complicated.

After Zeng Lai and Huai escaped, they heard a sound of something being kicked over behind them, and immediately cursed at the top of their lungs.

He knew that the curse was intentional.

But the decapitated person had already chased after them, and now it was too late to settle the score, so they could only run wildly in the corridor, barefoot and wearing only towels, using various cover to hide from the decapitated person's sight.

There was some good news, though. During their escape, Zeng Lai discovered that the decapitated person had a very limited range of vision, and as long as they stood ten meters away, it couldn't see them, and could only rely on hearing to discern the direction.

Fortunately, the absurd world didn't design the decapitated person too sadistically.

Thanks to the curved design, Zeng Lai and Huai successfully made their way down to the second floor through the side road outside the bathroom, while Bai ran towards the bedroom.

Just as Bai and the two men separated, for some reason, the decapitated person seemed to have targeted Zeng Lai and Huai, and continued to chase after them without much pause.

So as the two of them ran on the second floor, they finally found the first closed loop route, and ran along the loop, back to the staircase, where they met Yu Xing, who seemed to be strolling leisurely.

Zeng Lai's voice, full of relief, was self-consciously suppressed, leaving only a whisper: "Great, you're not lost!"

Yu Xing: "..." I can't get lost.

"Then run with us!"

Yu Xing: "?"

Without a word, Yu Xing was pulled along, feeling helpless, and followed Zeng Lai and Huai as they ran around in circles. Huai waved his hand, somewhat wearily, "We've shaken it off."

He squatted down, caught a small green snake the length of a finger with his hand, and led the snake to the pendant on his chest.

At that moment, Yu Xing was panting heavily, hugging his knees to relieve the irregular heartbeat caused by running. It wasn't until the small green snake coiled around the pendant that Yu Xing noticed that the jade snake decoration on Huai's pendant was missing.

A detective-type offering?Yu Xing guessed it was so, and after they had shaken off the headless specter, Zeng Lai and Huai finally realized how "un-boss-like" they appeared at the moment, hurrying back to the bathroom to change clothes.

Thus, the trio made their way back to the bathroom, and Yu Xing took the opportunity to share his speculation about the wardrobe.

"The wardrobe had bloodstains before, which was actually a warning to us that something had died inside it. Having passed the blood-stained wardrobe, we should have been cautious about it, but then the specter imitated the voice of White Face to urge us to hide quickly. It's easy to overlook other hints because of the apparent danger. So I guess, the ghost in the wardrobe must be one of the intelligent ones, capable of imitating our voices and understanding the locations of certain specters, which allowed it to take advantage when the headless one arrived."

It was only after encountering White Face that they were able to fully confirm this.

White Face expressed sympathy for the trio's ordeal, then looked seriously at the two bosses: "The gambler boss is one thing, but Huai, you're too skinny, not quite what I imagined."

Huai wore a face that showed no interest in continuing this topic and walked straight into the bathroom.

Since they had run into each other, White Face didn't plan to act alone. After Zeng Lai and Yu Xing had both gone in, she waited outside.

In the trio's imagination, the bathroom should have been empty at this time. Even if there was a specter in the wardrobe, it shouldn't be able to directly claim lives, especially since the Deductionist's offerings could be of great help to them.

They had been out for so long that Han Zhiyong and White Face, who were in the bathroom at the time, should have left.

Zeng Lai and Huai found their lockers and began to change clothes, leaving Yu Xing, who had nothing to do, to look around. He saw the lock that had fallen from Han Zhiyong's locker and a smile curled up at the corner of his mouth.

He had never expected Han Zhiyong to die here; the current situation was already quite satisfactory.

Then, a faint scent of blood wafted into his nostrils.

"Hmm?"

Yu Xing was somewhat surprised as he searched for the source of the smell, and soon he stood in front of White Face's locker.

The wardrobe door was ajar, revealing a slit through which nothing could be seen clearly.

As he drew closer, the scent of blood became significantly stronger.

Yu Xing used his finger to push open the wardrobe door, and to his surprise, he was met with a gruesome sight.

Inside the wardrobe lay a corpse.

Not the kind of body that a specter would place there to scare people, but a fresh, warm, familiar one.

Blood was splattered, staining parts of the wooden wall red, and the body lay limp, a towel wrapped around its waist, soaked in red.

If the body was still somewhat intact, then the head... was a bit too gruesome to behold.

The entire head was skinless, revealing only muscle, bone, and some nauseating brain tissue, emitting a strange odor.

It was unknown what kind of perverse pleasure the unknown specter had taken in hanging the thinly peeled face on the wardrobe's clothes rail. Yu Xing glanced over and could feel the ferocity of the face.

White Face was dead, and this manner of death would be considered brutal anywhere.

This was truly unexpected.

Yu Xing had thought that this person was just low-key, but he didn't expect the lack of strength, not even able to escape.

Zeng Lai, having changed his clothes, saw Yu Xing standing still and approached curiously, asking, "What are you doing? What's this—Holy shit!"

Huai, hearing the commotion, also came over: "…?" How could this be?

The three were all shocked by the outcome.

Yu Xing felt something was amiss and reached out to move the body, wanting to see if there were any man-made wounds on it. Instead of finding wounds, he discovered a flower mark the size of a little fingernail on the back of White Face's neck.

His pupils shrank for a moment, then he quickly returned to normal, identifying the type of flower.

It seemed to be a laurel.

"…Why would he… Is it specifically marked for me to see?"

Yu Xing subconsciously dabbed some blood to cover the mark, stepped back, and refrained from touching the body any further.

Zeng Lai and Huai didn't notice Yu Xing's abnormality, because after Yu Xing moved the body, something even more attractive was revealed.

The fragments of White Face's persona mask were lying quietly behind the body.
